I turned all my academic writings to draft mode as I could not figure out how to hide them from the blog links. Category excluder plugins work to some extent, but they do give me the output I want.
I hope that I do not need to mess around with code to have the writings as a standalone category. Till then, my writings are disabled until I can figure out how to set them apart from the rest of the site.
